September 2015

It is with tremendous sadness that we are announcing the death of bestselling women’s fiction writer Rebecca Shaw. Following a severe stroke, Rebecca peacefully passed away on 7th September at the age of 83.

Rebecca had a long and prosperous career as an author writing in total 28 books. Her latest book, Mystery in the Village, was published on 27 August 2015 and reached number 21 in the UK bestseller charts. Her novels have been published in the United States, Germany, Hungary, Norway and Denmark, with her total sales exceeding an incredible one million copies.

A kind and loyal author, Rebecca was represented by the Darley Anderson Agency and published by Orion Books for the 21 years of her career. She will be hugely missed by us all.

Darley Anderson says:

‘I first met Rebecca Shaw in 1994 at a Writers Conference. She had just written her first book The New Rector and had been signed up by her talented editor Yvette Goulden at Orion. This was the first in her series of books featuring the village & inhabitants of Turnham Malpas. I read The New Rector immediately and loved it and became Rebecca’s Agent. And so began a long and happy Author/Agent relationship first with myself and then latterly with Camilla Wray.

Rebecca was a lovely woman and a gifted writer. She created a host of memorable Turnham Malpas characters, who have brought hours of reading pleasure to millions of readers & will continue to do so as long as her books are in print or online.’

You can't escape your past. At least that's what the residents of Turnham Malpas would say...

While clearing out the rectory's loft, Reverend Peter Harris makes an unsettling discovery and a dark secret is exposed that soon sets tongues wagging in the village.

Having received a letter from the sons she hasn't heard from in 15 years, local gossip Greta Jones is delighted at the prospect of seeing them after all this time - despite her husband's misgivings. And Craddock Fitch's unruly grandchildren, newly arrived in the village, are causing not a little trouble for the townsfolk.

Meanwhile Fran Charter-Plackett has a difficult decision to make. Her parents would like to see her settled with kind and reliable Alex Harris. But when Chris Templeton, the man whom Fran once lost her heart to, returns to the village, it seems he is all set to steal her affections once more. Is Chris really a changed man?
