Before phoning why don't you see if your query can be answered by one of our F.A.Q.s

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Are you currently considering unsolicited manuscripts?

A. The Darley Anderson Agency is always interested in reading new manuscripts! For more information about how to submit, please see our submissions page.

Q. What is the best way to submit my manuscript?

A. Please send the first three chapters along with a one page synopsis and a covering letter. You can submit by email or by post. Please see our submissions page for further information.

Q. Can I send you my screenplay/TV script?

A. The Darley Anderson Agency rarely takes on screenwriters.

Q. Do you charge a fee for looking at a manuscript?

A. No reputable Literary Agency should charge a fee to consider your submission. If you are successful in securing representation and following that a publishing deal, then the Agency will earn a commission as a percentage of the royalties that you are paid by the publisher.

Q. Should I be worried about copyright?

A. A major part of our business is based on finding exciting new authors and helping to make them a publishing success. We would never try to steal an author’s work or idea – this would not just be appalling from an ethical standpoint, but also terrible business practice! But you may be reassured to know that you are protected by copyright law the instant you write any new words.

Q. What kind of books do you represent?

A. The Darley Anderson Agency specialises in handling a broad range of bestselling commercial fiction and non-fiction. We are happy to consider works from all genres - our list includes thrillers, mysteries, crime, horror, fantasy, accessible literary, romantic comedy, chick-lit, women in jeopardy, sagas and historical fiction. However we don’t currently consider poetry or short stories.

Q. My book isn’t finished. Can I send the first three chapters anyway?

A. If your book is fiction and we fall in love with your opening chapters, the first thing we will ask you for is the full manuscript. So it’s much better to have it finished and ready to send when you make your submission. This is less important if the work is non-fiction, but make sure you have at least one or two sample chapters along with your book proposal.

Q. If I post the hardcopy of my manuscript to you, how do I know I’ll get it back?

A. If you include a Stamped Addressed Envelope with your submission, we will always make every effort to ensure this is posted back to you. But we can’t take responsibility for any losses or damage that might occur, so please don’t ever send out your only copy of something!

Please note that the Children's agency does not accept postal submissions

Q. When can I expect to hear back from you?

A. Here at The Darley Anderson Agency we pride ourselves on responding to every single submission we receive. However this may take up to 8 weeks, as we get so many submissions – sometimes up to 300 a week – and like to give each one our careful consideration.

If you haven’t heard from us 8 weeks after submitting, please feel free to get in touch.
